Is This Our Technology Solution? (SWCC and The Oil Drum)

  • The huge Ras Azzour IWPP is currently under construction and will provide 375 million m3/yr of fresh water along with 2400 MW of power — all fueled by crude oil.
  • The Saline Water Conversion Corporation has planned to complete the first Phase by 2012, and full completion by 2014.
  • The project is the result of merging two projects: the planned Water and Electricity Company’s Ras Al Zour IWPP and the captive power plant held by Saudi Arabian Mining Company’s (Maaden) for the aluminum complex built nearby.
  • In February 2011, SEPCO III awarded Siemens a USD 1 billion order to supply 12 gas turbines, 10 heat-recovery steam generators, five steam turbines and associated auxiliary and ancillary systems.
  • Pretreatment for the reverse osmosis (RO) section of the world's largest seawater desalination plant at Ras Az Zawr (or Ras Azzour) in Saudi Arabia is to be by dissolved air flotation (DAF) and dual-media filtration (DMF).
