2010? Everyone Wanted to Be Canadian That Year (Paul Kedrosky's Infectious Greed)

For an upcoming talk on Canada's economic prospects I have been looking at immigration data. Here is the last five years' applications for temporary residence status, which is one step along the path to Canadian permanent residence/citizenship. There are, of course, both technical and non-technical reasons for the unprecedented uptick in y-o-y applications for Canadian residence in 2009/2010 (and note that 2010's numbers are annualized from Jan-June applications), but it is still noteworthy.
