3rd Arctic Frontier Conference opens in Norway

With so much of my current (and past) work in the Arctic, I have always remained intently interested in the results of new or ongoing research. The Third Annual Arctic Frontier conference opened yesterday in Tromsø, Norway. The conference is entitled "Age of the Arctic - Balancing Human Use and Ecosystem Protection". You can even partake with listening in on a live webcast (Arctic Frontiers - Home). There is a full schedule of events. The conference will cover Policy, Science and has almost 600 registrants. It is in part organized and funded by Canadians through ArcticNet (http://www.arcticnet.ulaval.ca/). I was initially involved with the development of this program in 2002 which was at that time headed by Dr. Louis Fortier. I even had the fortune of participating in the excitement when the now CCGS Amundsen was acquired a part of the program. I have seen reference over the years of expeditions and specific scientific results emerging from their efforts. This program continues to be an important component of a global cooperative and collaborative contribution to modern arctic research.
