Q: As an avid golfer who also is looking forward to this week’s Masters, what do you think it takes to become a “master trader”?
A: Thank you for the timely question. Although I know a number of successful traders and have studied from the best, I know of no “master traders.” However, I do know a lot of master students!
In my humble opinion, Mr. Market is the one and only true master and to do well we must always be his student.
While trading is not easy and does require a “mastery” of number of skills (including being a master of self) much like any highly-skilled endeavor, it is a constant journey of exploration and education which never ends. It is no mere coincidence that those who constantly seek to improve and focus on learning more and practice their skills, are also those who find greater success. Likewise, those who delude themselves into thinking they’ve somehow mastered the market are at their most dangerous.
