The Triumph of Homo Sapiens (HistoryChannel)

I found this program to be most intriguing - an hour of details relating to when and how the advances in ancient weather have influenced the progress of mankind.  The show begins with a discussion around the known existing "human" population of approx. 100,000 that was brought to the brink of extinction from falling temperatures and a changing climate.  It is estimated that this occurred approximately 160,000 years ago.  The program also discusses these recurring Heinrich Events - lasting approximately 1,000yrs and occurring every 6,000-7,000yrs.
As humans progressed and populated more of the land mass north from the center of civilization (Ethiopia) to Europe and Russia and beyond, it has become evident the some "humans" were better able to adapt and survive.  The same has not been held true for the Neanderthals - which in this program are highlighted as holding their last days in court in the caves at present day Rock of Gibraltar.  A fascinating look inside some of the details of our long term existence.

The Triumph of Homo Sapiens
Tony explores how a small group of our earliest African ancestors were rescued from extinction by global warming, which transformed the land from arid to lush savannah, enabling the first adventurers to traverse the continent and eventually make it to Europe.
