MMS and Coast Guard Hearings in Kenner, LA (NOLA.com)

Deepwater Horizon Hearings

The hearings into the Deepwater Horizon blowout has listened to some more than a little damning evidence that the decision making process was more than a little flawed during those last hours before the explosion.  A couple for excerpts from the NOLA.com account:

1)  Chief Mechanic onboard recounted his recollection of an argument/disagreement during an 11am briefing where BP personnel overruled the other members of the drilling team regarding the displacement of drilling mud with seawater.

2)  Expert witness and ship captain commented that monitoring the drill mud and volumes is a critical part of well control procedures.

3)  a BP personnel takes the fifth and will not testify.

4)  Some details regarding the redeployment of the rig to anotehr location, and the current schedule being behind, suggest that BP might have been of the mindset to cut costs with the rig's running charges approximated at $500k/d
