Biologists: The reason we love our work

As a professional biologist of more than three decades, probably the most commonly asked question is ~ why do you do the work that you do?

My answer is generally three fold, and includes growing up  with nature, being good in the sciences at school, and loving animals.

While practicing biology, many of us have  adopted photography as a hobby of sorts ~ as it is such an integral part of how we do our business.  With the recent advancements in DSLR equipment, many more people are doing the same ~ capturing fabulous images wherever they travel.  Everyone's perspective is a little different ~ and photography can preserve those special moments in time.

The photos presented below were taken by a surveyor, Bob Holtkamp at a work site in the Arctic.  The first photo is an adult Arctic Fox in summer pelage.  The next ones are of a single Arctic wolf that has been hanging around camp.  Apparently the wolf even stole one of the fish caught by others.

It is for moments like this, that we do what we do.
