Whoowoodathunk?

At a news conference earlier this evening it has been revealed by (Environment Minister) Jim Prentice that Ottawa has made an offer of financial support to the proponents of the Mackenzie Gas Project, a consortium led by Imperial Oil. Minister Prentice had met earlier today with representatives of Imperial Oil, ConocoPhillips, Shell, the Aboriginal Pipeline Group, and MGM Energy. As reported, it does not include a request for a stake in the project. Further, this funding will not be a component of the infrastructure stimulus that is highly anticipated for the upcoming budget next week. This is interesting news. There are many that have followed this story and would not have expected this, including me. This may put a new twist into the ongoing saga of developing northern gas reserves and transporting them to southern markets.
